This week we are kicking off a multi-part series highlighting the importance of creating a detailed assessment as part of your business optimization initiatives.

Before developing an optimal solution that will lead to implementation, it is necessary, to begin with, a thorough understanding of your current state – such that you can make the right business decision on the go-forward strategy.  Three milestones bubble up to the surface that summarize the objective of the assessment:  Data, Culture, and Readiness.

Critical Area #1 – Data – You need to get a robust, quantitative view of the process or problem area that you are addressing. This is where you pull together the facts, via data. Remember, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, not their own facts…… This is where the data comes in.

Critical Area #2 – Culture Equally crucial to data, gaining cultural insights is vital as you gather qualitative information via stakeholder and user interviews. The real goal is to understand any barriers in the organization and to gauge what will work if implemented. Is the company culturally ready for an aggressive solution, or are there limitations that would suggest a slower, more comfortable path?

Critical area #3 – Readiness for Change – It is essential to ascertain and gauge the organization’s readiness or appetite for change. This insight is gleaned as a result of asking the right questions. The answers often provide clues that will help gain a critical understanding of just how much change you can realistically undertake.  An ideal best-designed solution is wasted on an organization that is just not ready.

At Alleon Group, we believe that it is vital that organizations understand, at a strategic level, where their current operations align with strategic needs, market capabilities, and long-term sustainability. Participating in and completing a detailed assessment of the current state is a critical step that must be developed early in the process. Ensuring that these three areas are adequately captured is vital to the success of your business optimization efforts.
